I\’m surprised to find a knitwear designer with such strange views. I guess I always imagined them as very free individuals! And thanks for your tips on substituting yarns. I always forget to compare the texture of the different yarns before starting.

I have met a handful of designers and this particular designer was unique in my experience.

Most of them were a delight to talk to and passionate about knitting.  They were also very encouraging

and supportive of fellow knitters.

You do sometimes wonder about the designers. I think that it is irresponsible to use expensive yarn and not feel that those who can’t afford that can’t do the pattern! Thanks for another great show!

It reallly sucks that the knitwear designer gets daily shipments of yarn that she just throws away after awhile. When you said that, I damn there dropped what I was knitting and almost fell out of my chair gasping for air. As for your tips, they were very helpful. I’m a college knitter and can’t afford expensive materials so substituting is not a once in a blue moon thing for me. It’s what I do most outside of knitting.

Love the show, Carry. Keep up the good work!

I agree with Liz, I can’t believe anyone would throw away yarn…unless it’s really crappy acrylic which I have done on occassion. There’s always someone willing to take my unused yarn off my hands!

FINALLY! A podcast that is worth listening too! Not too long, not too short, not full of ads or talk of things that I as a crafter have no interest in. A podcast that is full of actual knitting tips and tricks to hand-down like they did in the good-ol-days before patterns and techniques were hoarded and sold to the those with the deepest pockets. THANK YOU for not putting out another, what I term as, “Bucket of Bore”!

I just listened to this episode and I have to say, I found the attitude of that designer just ludicrous! It reminded me of Rebecca magazine. At the beginning of the pattern section, there’s a little note that essentially says, “If you don’t use the exact yarn the pattern calls for, your garment will not turn out right.” I’m sure that this “disclaimer” has nothing at all to do with the fact that the magazine is put out by a yarn company and the patterns all use their yarn. Nope, no ulterior motive there!

Love the podcast! Keep up the great work!
