KnitWit 44: Why tell stories?

Filed under: podcast — Autumn Breeze at 2:00 pm on Saturday, November 25, 2006

Reminder: Spin to Knit Secret Pal Exchange deadline is Dec 1 (2006) see button on side or previous post for link.

No offers yet for the make a button contest. Handknit hat or knitting book your choice.

Grey shawl is done. Here are some pictures.

Front of Grey Shawl

Notice how well it wraps around. This is because I knit 2 triangles instead of one big one. Increases are on the sides and in the middle of the back.

Back of Grey Shawl

Note gusset in the back to change shape. I like this shape better than the normal pointy shawls. It just requires moving the increases from the middle to either side of the gusset.

Here is a picture of the lace edge. This is an easy edge lace. You knit the lace onto the shawl by knitting the last stitch of the lace to the next stitch on the shawl. No sewing necessary.
Lace edging

I talk about my first real exposure to stories and the lessons I learned from them.

Please let me know what you think.

KnitWit 43: Questions and Answers 2

Question and Answers episode.

News: Interweave Press is organizing a handspun yarn swap to help promote the new book Spin to Knit. Deadline to registrate is Dec 1 (http://www.spintoknit.com/swap/)

Big thank you to Tekopp for the suggestion Akismet for handling spam. It has been great.

I need a button. Let’s have a button contest. Priscilla Gibson-Roberts and Deborah Robson’s Knitting in the Old Way is up as prize. (I miss say the title of the book. Sorry. This is why I don’t say names.) If you are not a knitter and would like a handknit hat instead. I can do that.

Many questions and answers.

I spaced out the name of Kay Gardiner and Ann Meador Shayne’s book Mason Dixon Knitting. I apologize. It is a great book. I need to get myself a copy.

Are you interested in hearing more about my knitting and see pictures of my knitting?

Let me know.

KnitWit 42: The C Word

There are some things that just should not be said in a voice message. “You have cancer. Call me” is one of them. Maybe in this day and age there is no choice but really that is crass.

I tell the story of my skin cancer experience.

Getting badly sun burned twice increases your chance of getting skin cancer to 75%.

Take care of your skin. It is all you got between you and the world.

Let me know what you think. Should medical practitioners be a little bit more sensitive to how the information is being delivered?

KnitWit 41: In the Beginning

Please, help me spread the word about the podcast. There are two promos on the side bar.
It has been a glorious Fall here in NC. This made me think I should explain the ‘aka Autumn Breeze’. Since Autumn Breeze is my birth name, I thought I should tell the story of my birth and my first few weeks of life.

Some people think it explains a lot about me. What do you think? I would like to know.
