KnitWit 49: Why tell stories? Part 3

Filed under: podcast — Autumn Breeze at 2:10 pm on Saturday, December 30, 2006

I’ve missed you and am glad you’re back.

I have been dying wool. I use Louet’s gaywool, an acid dye for dying. The super-wash takes the dye differently. Not exactly what I was aiming for. What do you think?

Dyed roving

I tell a story about a potter, I meet at the NC State Fair, Senora Lynch. She did some amazing work with children.

If you wish to contact Senora, please contact me. I will pass any messages on to her.

My contact information.

Knitwit 48: Happy Holiday

Filed under: podcast — Autumn Breeze at 2:09 pm on Saturday, December 23, 2006

Sheep

I talk about my holiday views.
Some suggestions for that last minute presents

1. For the puzzle lover in your life

Everett Kaser has a wide range of wonderful computer logic games. I don’t go a day without playing at least one game.

2. For the fantasy reader in your life

Terry Pratchett is great. His books are funny, insightful, and a great yarn.

3. For any knitters/spinners here are some fiber sources that I love

Kid Hollow Farm. Pat dyes mohair from her goats combined with wool she buys from local farmers to create spectacular rovings and yarns.
Ohio Valley Mill. They have wonderfully soft rovings.
Zeilingers. They have great yarns and rovings as well as other treasures.

I wish you a safe and happy winter holiday.

Please, let me know what you think.

KnitWit 47: Why tell stories? Part 2

Filed under: podcast — Autumn Breeze at 1:33 pm on Saturday, December 16, 2006

Updates:

I’m much better. Almost everyone has been to Dr these past two days. Everyone is healthy and happy (well maybe not Monster)

I have my spinning assignment. I am intimidated. She has some wonderful yarns on her website for sell. Much more fancy than what I do. Any advice?

I am declaring a tie in the button contest. Both are wonderful and very different. So big Thank you to thuy and Crow Calling Woman.

Here they are. Feel free to copy and put on your web-site and spread the word about the podcast.

Here is one Wayne designed for me.

In this week’s story, I continue talking about why storytelling. I talk about a person who greatly influenced my preception of storytelling and the power of it.

Let me know what you think. I want really to know.

KnitWit 46: I’m Sick

Filed under: podcast — Autumn Breeze at 11:20 am on Saturday, December 9, 2006

I have bronchitis. I’m on drugs. Drugs are good. Drugs are bad. I’m a bit irritable. I hate being sick.

I just want to curl up in the corner for now.

Letters of encouragement, sympathy and condolences to Wayne would be appreciated.

KnitWit 45: The Art of Ripping

Filed under: podcast — Autumn Breeze at 10:11 am on Sunday, December 3, 2006

I have a cold and sound like shit. Hope you don’t mind.

Button contest. Ending date Dec 15 (2006). You have some time to join in. I have gotten a few great entries. You will have to help me pick the winner.

Workshop hosted by Yarns Etc. in Carrboro, NC featuring Christine Bylsma. Stashology 201 and Knitting Infirmary. Great classes. Learned a lot. I have some reassessing to be done.

Ripping is just a part of knitting. So much so, that it has its own set of terms.

  • Frogging or the frog stitch - ripping out because you rip-it, rip-it (coined by Amy Detjen)
  • Tink - unknitting one stitch at a time (coined by Amy Tyler)
  • TOAD - Trashed Object, Abandoned in Disgust (coined by Fahy Bygate)

I give some hints on how to rip back safely and easily.

Please let me know what you think or if you have any other ripping tips to add.

As always, I love comments. Thanks to everyone who have left a comment or sent an e-mail or left a voice message.
