		<description>I&#039;d always thought of &quot;the box&quot; in that phrase as being the smaller set of approved, more comfortable expectations/actions/information we get from the culture around us, not necessarily all of our experiences. Thus, thinking &quot;outside the box&quot; would be paying attention to and using your experiences that might bring you to conclusions outside the usual ones arrived at by you or the people around you.

I see your point...absolutely and you should work it up as your essay unless you really don&#039;t want to alienate the instructor right away. Some of them don&#039;t like anyone&#039;s &quot;creativity&quot; but their own. Is it a creative writing course or a series of technical writing lessons?
Anyway, I believe &quot;thinking outside the box&quot; is one of the most overused phrases on the planet...
