KnitWit 145: Lace

Filed under: podcast — Autumn Breeze at 10:41 pm on Sunday, November 30, 2008

Lace knitting was first done in Span.

Lace knitting is simply strategically placing holes in your knitting.

I tell a story about one of my first lace knitting projects.

Was any of this information helpful?

Great show! Simple yet complex- I love lace. My first lace project was made with 100% unknown fibre that resembled burlap, just a bit softer. I made a doily because I was 14 and thought the juxtaposition was cool. I then made a teapot cozy to match with my first cables.
Thanks for the memories.

FOUND YOUR PODCASTS AND AM VERY PLEASED THAT YOU ARE DOING EXACTLY WHAT YOU DO. I DRIVE A TRUCK FOR A LIVING AND LISTEN TO MY MP3 PLAYER AT LEAST 10 HOURS A DAY. ALTHOUGH I DRIVE A TRUCK, I ALSO SEW CLOTHES AND QUILTS AND BABY BIBS. I CROCHET RUGS AND HANDBAGS AND WEED PREVENTING MATS FOR AROUND MY TREES AND SHRUBS (OUT OF NYLON BAILING TWINE). I FOUND YOUR SITE WHILE LOOKING FOR KNITTING PATTERNS ON LINE. I DO NOT KNIT YET, BUT IT IS ONE OF THE NEXT THINGS I WANT TO LEARN TO DO. I RETIRED FROM THE AIR FORCE, I HAVE ALWAYS FELT AS IF I AM AN “OUTSIDER” IN ANY SOCIAL GROUP, LOVE MATH AND PUZZLES AND FIXING THINGS, ALTHOUGH I HEVE NEVER BEEN DIAGNOSED WITH A LEARNING DISABILTY. I DO NOT KEEP CATS, BUT HAVE A WOUNDERFUL LAP DOG (MAGGIE) WHO LOVES TO SIT ON MY LAP AND CUDDLE AND FOLLOWS MY WIFE AND I AROUND AS YOU SAID YOUR BELOVED ABERNATHY DID. (TRUCK DRIVER CRIED). I’VE HAD TO HAVE TWO OF MY DOGS PUT DOWN OVER THE YEARS AND ALTHOUGH IT HAS BEEN A LONG TIME, I STILL CRY A GREAT DEAL WHEN I HAPPEN TO THINK ABOUT IT. I SHARE YOUR VIEWS ON MARRIAGE, AND HAVE BEEN MARRIED AT LEAST ONCE FOR ALL OF THE REASONS YOU LIST. MY PRESENT WIFE, SUSAN, AND I GOT MARRIED TWO YEARS AGO AFTER DRIVING A TRUCK TOGETHER SINCE 1998, (THAT’S HOW WE MET AND FELL IN LOVE) MOSTLY BECAUSE OF MEDICAL INSURANCE ISSUES. SUE HAD BOTH OF HER KNEES REPLACED THIS PAST SUMMER AND HAS NOT RECOVERED ENOUGH YET TO BE ON THE TRUCK WITH ME, SO SHE AND MAGGIE ARE STAYING HOME FOR A FEW MORE MONTHS ANYWAY. SUE IS ALSO VERY CRAFTY. PLEASE KEEP UP YOUR PODCASTS FOR AS LONG AS YOU CAN, AND DON’T CHANGE ANYTHING. I STARTED LISTENING AT EPISODE 40, AND HAVE UP TO EPISODE 130 ON MY MP3 PLAYER. WILL TRY TO DOWNLOAD THE EARLIER ONES AND UPDATE TO THE CURRENT ONES NEXT TIME I AM AT HOME.
SAY HELLO TO WAYNE AND ALL OF YOUR “BABIES” FROM A TRUCK DRIVER WHO THANKS THEM FOR LENDING YOU TO THE PODCASTS…

Dude, your mom gave away your first lace project, a tablecloth at that? I have no idea what to say about that that isn’t rude. I have given away several doilies I’ve crocheted, but I would never do that to someone else without their permission.

I have a few left, but I have no idea where they are. I got kind of tired of making and looking at them. If I don’t get them done in 1-3 days, I lose interest. There is an octagonal one that I really love though. If I could find it, I would take a picture and post it up on ravelry (madonnaearth there too).

My current projects are not going very well, so I don’t discuss them much anymore. I am starting to lose my motivation for them too. I hope early next year I will get my crafting mojo back. The holiday season is kicking my butt, now that my Thanksgiving vacation is over.
