Problem with 189

Filed under: General — Autumn Breeze at 1:03 pm on Monday, December 20, 2010

There seems to be a problem with episode 189.  I will reload the show tonight when I get home.

Thanks for your patience.

Carry.

Update.  It should be fixed.  I was able to download and it started playing correctly.  Again, I apologize for any inconvenience this might have caused.

KnitWit 189: Quarantined

Filed under: General — Autumn Breeze at 9:23 pm on Sunday, December 19, 2010

I was quarantined.  While that in and of itself doesn’t explain why I haven’t finished the lastest chapter I hope the reason I was quarantined does and that you will forgive me.

Next week is a knitting episode.  I plan on talking about cast offs unless there is something more interesting you want to talk about.

Please let me know what you think.

KnitWit: Chapter 7 Sam

Filed under: General, podcast — Autumn Breeze at 5:54 pm on Sunday, November 14, 2010

The third annual Calendar of Hope has been published.  The money raised goes to breast cancer research.  Go to http://www.fitterknitter.com/breastcancercalendar.html for more information.

This week is a continuation of the encounters.  If you haven’t listened to the previous ones, go back to KnitWit 177: Jacky.

Please let me know what you think.  Sam was one of the first chapters I wrote.  I wasn’t meaning to write them out of order but Sam would not let me be.  I finally just had to write it to get him to leave me alone.  Do you think I have gone off my rocker?

KnitWit 181: Chapter 4 Mac

Filed under: General, podcast — Autumn Breeze at 1:54 pm on Sunday, September 5, 2010

We continue on with that thing I am writing.  If you haven’t listened to the first 3 go back and do it.  It starts in episode 177: Jacky.

This one is a bit long and I will admit to stumbling over some of the words.  I keep telling people my writing and my speaking vocalulary are two different things.

If you are interested in reading the stories, let me know.  If there is enough interest, I will put a link to the files on-line.

As always, I want to hear from you.  What do you think about Mac and his situation?  Do you think he will make the necessary changes?  Do you think I was heavy handed with his wake-up call?

KnitWit 179: Chapter 3 Billy

Filed under: General — Autumn Breeze at 12:04 pm on Sunday, August 22, 2010

We continue with the next encounter this week.  If you haven’t listened to the last two, you might want to do those before listening to this one.

Next week is a mod5 = 0 episode which means it should be a knitting one.  Do you want to take a break from the story and listen to some knitting or are you anxious to hear what comes next?

Let me know.

I need your feedback on these stories.  I can’t read your reaction.  You are too far away.  So please let me know if the stories are resenating with you or not.

I have set up thread in Rav for people to talk about them.  If that isn’t a good place, I could set up a forum here.  Would you be interested in that?  Let me know.

Change A Mind About Mental Illness

KnitWit 171: Where are You?

Filed under: General — Autumn Breeze at 6:26 pm on Sunday, September 13, 2009

Looking around I find that most people who are around me aren’t there.  They seem to have gone elsewhere.  That is one of the great gift of humans to be able to remember, imagine, dream and plan.  But what are you missing by not being in the moment?

What do you think?

KnitWit 170: Fair Isle

Filed under: General — Autumn Breeze at 9:01 pm on Sunday, August 30, 2009

First an apology.  Sorry to have been gone for so long.  Between life, fun, and illness, I just haven’t had the motivation I needed to do a show.  You know I love doing the podcast.  Just haven’t felt well enough to get behind the mic.

Today’s topic is Fair Isle or stranded knitting.  I couldn’t find much information on the history of the technique.

Fair Isle is a color technique that uses 2 colors on each row.  The colors are chosen from 3 palettes of color.  The color that is not worked is stranded across the back. If the strand is too long then you will want to catch the yarn. This video, which is just a random video I found, shows the technique.

The garments are made in the round and the knitting is cut for the arm holes and for making a cardigan. This is referred to as steeking.

I use a tubular method of picking up stitches so that the cut stitches are enclosed.

Best way to try this technique of knitting is to start small. I recommend a hat or a baby sweater.

I know this was a bit jumbled. I hope it makes some sense and you feel encouraged to try something new.

Albert Einstein (1999-2009)

Filed under: General — Autumn Breeze at 4:04 pm on Monday, April 27, 2009

I had to let Einstein go today.  I loved him dearly.  It was a hard decision to make.  He was in too much pain.

I will miss him.
