KnitWit 162: Einstein

Filed under: podcast — Autumn Breeze at 3:19 pm on Sunday, May 10, 2009

I am still in mourning over the loss of Einstein.  Instead of doing a new show, I replay a very old episode: knitwit 4: Love at First Sight where I talk about meeting Einstein.

I hope to be able to record a new show for next week.

If you want to reach me, there are several ways.

Albert Einstein (1999-2009)

Filed under: General — Autumn Breeze at 4:04 pm on Monday, April 27, 2009

I had to let Einstein go today.  I loved him dearly.  It was a hard decision to make.  He was in too much pain.

I will miss him.

KnitWit 161: I’m Still Here

Filed under: podcast — Autumn Breeze at 7:46 pm on Sunday, April 26, 2009

Just a quick show to check in and let you know I am alive.  Things have been rather rough; I have a very sick bunny.  All my energy has been going to him.

He is fighting off a parasite that has crippled his hind quarters.

Because of his situation, I am not sure whether I will be going to Maryland next week.  If I do go, there is a good chance Einstein will be going with me.

Thanks for your understanding.

KnitWit 160: Slip Stitch Knitting

Filed under: podcast — Autumn Breeze at 9:22 pm on Sunday, April 12, 2009

No new news on the turtle.  If I hear anything, I will let you know.

I am going to be doing a show in Wilmington this next weekend.  I may be late with the show next week.

This week I talk about slip stitch knitting.  It is an easy way to add more complex color work to your knitting by knitting strips and slipping stitches.

There are several great books on the topic including Barbara Walker’s Mosaic Knitting and Roxana Bartlett’s Slip-Stitch Knitting: Color Pattern the Easy Way

If you have any questions or comments let me know.

Turtle update

Filed under: General — Autumn Breeze at 1:27 pm on Tuesday, April 7, 2009

As of yesterday, the turtle is alert and active.  He is not using his backlegs.  It is too early to tell if he will make it.  They are continuing with medicine and watching his fractured shell.

I will update when I have more news.

KnitWit 159: Friday

Filed under: podcast — Autumn Breeze at 9:33 pm on Sunday, April 5, 2009

I have had this week’s show planned for months.  You know what they say about best laid plans…

Instead of doing the planned story, I am going to tell you about my Friday.

I learned about an organization, Piedmont Wildlife Center, that I think rocks.  I encourage you to find and support any similar organization that exists in your area.

This story is still unfolding.  As I learn more I will post updates on the website and in rav.

KnitWit 158: To Sleep Perchance to Dream

Filed under: podcast — Autumn Breeze at 9:16 pm on Sunday, March 29, 2009

Thank you for your kind words concerning last weeks show.  I can’t begin to tell you how much it means to me.

On Friday, I went to an open mic at a local place.  I told a longer version of the Flat Tire story.  It went well.

I have been having problems sleeping.  My doctor has given me some drugs to help.  I am waking refreshed but having some very weird dreams.  This week I share one of my recent ones.

What do you think?

KnitWit 155: Stripes

Filed under: podcast — Autumn Breeze at 9:37 pm on Sunday, March 1, 2009

This week I talk about stripes.

Stripes are the easiest way to add color to your knitting.

If you knit stripes in the round, there is a problem of a jog.  Techknitter has a great article on how to deal with this issue.

People have given a lot of thought to how to make stripes look better.  One theory involves a special number: the golden ration k.  A closely related series of numbers is the Fibonacci series.

Fibonacci series starts F(0) = 1, F(1) = 1, F(n) = F(n-1) +F(n-2) or in other words

1,1,2,3,5,8,13, 21, 34, …

One interesting fact is that F(n)/F(n-1) ~ k. (especially for larger n’s)

The theory is that by using the Fibonacci numbers as a basis for your striping pattern, your garment will be seen as more attractive.

Give it a try and see what you think.

Also, please let me know what you think.  I would love to get some feedback on this episode as well as the past few.
